“green” Products Just A Ploy To Raise Prices?
I’ve noticed some new main stream “green” products stating they are made from recycled materials (some new Scott paper products and Renolds foil). But if you read the fine print on “regular” paper products you will note that many, if not all, state they are made with X% of post consumer product. So is this a way for companies to raise the prices and increase their profits without really having to do much more than they already are? This is my perception anyway. I am an avid recycler but I don’t pay more for these products because I think it’s a gimmick. Thoughts?

That is what is commonly referred to as “Green Washing”. We have been told that going green is expensive, that recycling materials cost more or uses greater resources and that we have to pay more for eco products. So, companies put a little logo on it, call it green and increase the cost. I don’t have many disposable items in my life, but I buy recycled content when I can and don’t usually have to pay more.
I believe we vote with our wallets and I support companies that are making real change not just trying to grab a green dollar.

Or maybe the price is higher because the cost of making the product is higher.
When you talk about commodities products gimmicks only last for a short period of time. Eventually, everyone will get in on the Green marketing and then the competition will force the price down. So, the profit margins remain the same.

It just depends on each person point of View on “green” products if your 100% green then you use everything with the higher rate of post Consumer product if your not that big on helping our children’s earth then you go with the less post Consumer and it also depends on the cost of each product some organic or high in recycled product cost more so consumer chose to buy the one that cost less. and this is just my thoughts

check the percentages, it might be higher. Also there are other factors that contribute to it being green (what it’s made up of, where it came from etc.). If those don’t match up then you’re probably right. Unfortunately when something extreme (good or bad) happens, there are always those who have to take advantage of it.

Recycled aluminum foil I like that one. 90% of all aluminum currently in use is recycled. It only takes 1/10 the electricity to melt down existing aluminum compared to raw ore.
It is all a scam just like cap and trade.

If you read further, and begin to aquire a sense, you will see that they depend upon us ,to be totally senseless, when affronted this way. Have you sense is the question.Have you the guile to render such afflictions impudent? See my point?

If you are worried about the environment and expenses and somebody making a profit off of green products there is a very simple answer.
REDUCE – it doesn’t get cheaper than that, it doesn’t get greener than that, and nobody can rip you off if you do that.
So real simple look into your purchases buy what you need or really want don’t be fooled by a commercial or advertising on a product container obviously you have a computer research your purchases before you make them. Your dollars dictate what companies sell stop buying single use throw away junk and they will stop making it. As far as paying more when you stop buying the single use item and they all switch to a good product then competion in a free market kicks in and there you have it. Value.
God bless America, all we need is the smallest bit of common sense.
